LG LEADER GUIDE
Welcome / Share Vision for LG
Briefly welcome the group & pray before eating.
Welcome to life group! Life group is a safe, committed community to walk out our journey with Jesus together.
Dinner / Fellowship (30 mins)
We share dinner together as an act of fellowship. Throughout the gospels, we see Jesus constantly interacting with people over a meal. The act of eating is so universal that eating together both fills a practical need and helps us open up again to community together. As we eat and share, let’s intentionally reflect on God’s presence in our lives. Encourage people to share, not report.
Optional: you can have the elements of communion to take communion together to start or end the meal.

Bible reading
(10-20 mins)
Together, read out loud 1 Kings 19:11-13a. Leave time after for reflection. This can either be done individually or in small discussion groups. If discussing as a group, make sure everyone is able to participate.
Here are some potential questions for reflection.

- Do any words or phrases from this stand out to you or connect with your current life season? If so, which parts?
- What does this passage tell us about God? What does it tell us about people?
- What do I need to remember, sit in, or obey in light of the text? What does this mean for my life today?
Practice: Silence, Solitude & Stillness
Read this overview aloud together. (5 mins)
Silence, Solitude, and Stillness is the practice of setting aside specific time to be present with God and doing nothing else. We see this practiced throughout the history of our faith from Elijah in the wilderness, to Jesus repeatedly drawing away to be alone, to the desert fathers cultivating a life around it. In our culture today, this can feel extremely challenging, uncomfortable, and radical. Yet as a cultivated rhythm of life, these combined practices can help us pay attention to God and ourselves. Silence creates space; solitude reorients us toward God; stillness halts the pressure to achieve.
Silence & Stillness as a group (15 mins)
Encourage members of your group to get in a comfortable position as you lead them through the practice. If comfortable, they should close their eyes to help foster an undistracted posture since you’re a group of people. Sitting with feet on the floor, body uncrossed, and hands open to receive from the Lord can help posture our body to listen.
We’re going to spend five minutes together in silence and stillness.
As a group, engage with the following questions to finish out the time:
Individual Practice
This week, try engaging in silence, solitude, and stillness every day as part of your time with Jesus. Aim for a minimum of 5 minutes each day. Increase as you feel led and able to.

- We’ll start by taking some deep breaths alongside practicing a breath prayer from Psalm 23. We’ll use this to recenter ourselves on the presence of God. Slowly breathe in while praying, “The Lord is my shepherd.” Breathe out with the prayer, “He provides all that I need.” Repeat this another time.
- We’ll spend the next 5 minutes sitting in silence. If you feel that it’s necessary, you can use that breath prayer to help refocus yourself on God’s presence.
- After five minutes, close the time with a prayer of gratitude and thankfulness to the Lord.
As a group, engage with the following questions to finish out the time:
- What did you become aware of during the time?
- What was God highlighting?
- Was this comfortable or uncomfortable? Why?
