Welcome life group leaders!
This guide is a resource for you as you pray and consider how you lead your group towards being with Jesus, becoming more like Jesus, and doing what Jesus did, together!

Meal / Fellowship

(Briefly welcome the group & pray before eating.)

We share dinner together as an act of fellowship. Throughout the gospels, we see Jesus constantly interacting with people over a meal. The act of eating is so universal that eating together both fills a practical need and helps us open up again to community together. As we eat and share, let’s intentionally reflect on God’s presence in our lives.

  • How did you encounter God this week?
  • What is God teaching you right now?
  • How did you see God moving in someone else's life?

Optional: you can have the elements of communion to take communion together to start or end the meal.

Discovery Bible Study (DBS)

Topic: Good news of great joy for all people

Leading Scripture: Luke 2:1–20

Tips:
Set the tone
  • Create a welcoming, unhurried atmosphere.
  • Remind everyone that the goal isn’t to teach but to discover together what God is saying through His Word.
  • Encourage participation from everyone — even brief thoughts matter.

Begin with prayer

“Holy Spirit, would You open our hearts and help us see Jesus clearly in this passage?”

1. First Reading:
  • Have someone read the passage aloud.
  • Prompt responses from the group using the following question:
    • What does this passage teach us about God — His will, His ways, His priorities?

2. Second Reading:
  • Ask a second person to re-read it in another translation.
  • Prompt responses from the group using the following question:
    • What does this passage teach us about people — our will, perspectives, or priorities?

3. Reflection:
  • Invite the group to pause and reflect on the following question:
    • What from this passage does God want me to know and apply to my life?
  • After a couple minutes, prompt responses from the group.

End With Prayer Together

Consider this time as an opportunity to minister to each other through prayer. Follow the spirit's leading.

A leader should close out the night with a final prayer over the group as a whole and thank everyone for coming.
